   Please don't call it Brisvegas. The city is NOTHING like Las Vegas and the name is a stupid term that was coined by a very tacky real estate agent and even tackier radio station here and used in their loud advertising. Real Brisbaneites don't call it that.

   A good spot to live would be Bulimba or Hawthorne on the east side or perhaps Paddington in the inner east. All are close to the city. Only the first two have local cinemas (very good ones), but both have excellent pubs, clubs, cafes, restaurants and boutique shopping. Bulimba and Hawthorne are only a ferry (or cab) ride away from the CBD where most of the nightclubs are found and Paddington is an even closer bus or cab ride away for the city.

   Hey, I wasn't scolding him. It's a stupid name that hardly anyone in Brisbane uses and I didn't want him to think that it was what everyone here calls it, because it most definitely isn't. You can call it whatever you like, but don't encourage him to come here sounding like a d!ckhead as soon as he opens his mouth.

   I agree with Ozmaniac, re Brisvegas. It's an outdated and corny name for what is a thriving, vibrant city. As to where to live, it depends on your budget and what kind of accommodation you want. Add to Bulimba, Hawthorne and Paddington… New Farm, close to clubs and cinemas, restaurants and to the great river transport in the way of ferries and fast city cats as well as buses.

   Then again there are lots of places close to the train and there are very few suburbs that don't have restaurants, cafes, libraries, pubs, taverns, cinemas, etc. Morningside, Cannon Hill, Carindale, Sunnybank, Annerley, Yeronga, Toowong, Milton, to name just a few.

   Edit: not scolding, just tongue in cheek… I thought it was funny as well. Should have added the smile!

   Mate if you wanna call it brivegas go right ahead i am born and bred brisvegan and i think it’s funny that you been scolded like a little boy for calling it that. Anyway to answer your question for nightlife you can either go to the city or valley that’s where the majority of the big clubs are but if your more into the pub scene then the list is endless we have some very good pubs that on friday and saturday nights have live bands and you can find them in most suburbs. If you get somewhere to live not far off Old Cleveland Road near an express bus stop in Carina,Camp Hill or Coorparoo or most of Carindale you have that many different bus routes to the city it’s not funny. Carindale has a very large Westfields a good tavern, Cinemas and Cannon Hill tenpin bowling is a short drive away.

   We live 40 mins south of the city and 50 mins from the beaches of the gold coast ,we have everything we need on hand without living in the hustle and bustle of the city. Wheres best to live ? is a personal question and only when you see it will you what know suits your requirements best,good luck it will be a hard choice as theres too many nice places out here,lol.    I live at Carindale and its beautiful with low crime,great people and good public transport and its only 30 min to the city by bus.

   IMO the southside heading east towords Manly is your best pic,

   Brisvegas is just fine if that’s what you want to call it!!

   Nundah and Ascot are nice areas. Inner northside, it’s about a 10-15 minute drive to the city, 5-10 minute drive to the airport, fully serviced by both bus and trains, close to ferry for access to the city, inner eastern and inner western suburbs. Access to the gateway is very close too for travel up or down the coast.

   The area is also close to 2 major shopping Centres - Toombul and Chermside. Chermside is a rather large shopping Centre with cinemas, bowling alley, cafes, restaurants, pubs.

   It’s also not far from the valley or city so enjoying the nightlife is not a problem, as taxi fares are not that expensive to Nundah or Ascot. Or depending on what time you go home, bus and trains run pretty late into the night.

   Good luck if you decide to move. I’m sure you’ll love it here!!

   Nothing wrong with brisvegas, I like the name…I live in Paddington..lots of cafes,Buses run every 20-30mins to city and outer suburbs.. the place a buzz.. close to city, nite-life, suncorp stadium…Have done afew walking pub crawls starting from the Paddo-Caxton to City…downhill all the way. Cab it home after…lol
   I agree with Shan…Nundah, Ascot, Hamilton,Clayfield nice suburbs…close to transport. You will like it.
