As far north as possible. Auckland is around the same latitude as Sydney but does not get as hot. You will be missing your Gold Coast summers. References :
The northern region especially the pahia beach is such a wonderful beauty you would love to stay, its nice and warm, and not hot unlike some oz cities, people are cooperative and at every step you will find a new glimpse of nature, its cheap to survive moneywise, alternatively, there is ninty mile beach and there is kataia, anywhere in north, coz in the south the temperatures are sometimes very low and its very wet most of the time in the year.I dont think you would like to move just to stay indoors.
but the best option would be to come over here and have a look, since moving is a hell lot of big thing and you better know your preferences and definately you would not like to land on some absurd place just to regret after some time.
best wishes and have a nice time. References :
nelson at the top of the south island and the marlborough region (also top of the south island), followed by hawkes bay in the north island have the most sunshine hours per year so very pleasant climate wise. Also the Bay of plenty in the North island has a pretty decent climate, i used to live in a beautiful town called Whakatane and the summers up there are alot muggier than down in the south island where i now live.
nowhere will be as hot all the time as the gold coast but thats a good thing!!
Good luck in making your decision References :
